In an initiative led by Bishop Denis Nulty, Irelands favourite prayer has been revealed at the National Ploughing Championships being held in Ballintrane, Fenagh, Co Carlow.
Bishop Denis invited people from all over to vote for their favourite prayer and it was whittled down to two – O Angel of God and the Hail Mary.
With voting finished today, the winner was announced at 12noon by Bishop Denis to a packed tent!
The results of the public vote were 61% The Hail Mary and 39% O Angel of God.
Another part of Bishop Denis’ “Prayer at the Ploughing” initiative was for members of the public to submit a new “green” prayer for the environment.
With hundreds of prayers coming in from all across Ireland, the top three were announced today:
1st place – Siobhan Hayes, Ballacolla, Co Laois
2nd place – Rachel Diyaolu, St Leo’s College, Carlow
3rd place – Sophie, Leah, Ciara and Siofra from third class in Skeoughvosteen NS
Bishop Denis thanks everyone for their entries, especially the school children’s green prayers, and for the support and encouragement the initiative received over the last number of weeks.
