A note of thanks from Bishop Denis
Over the past weeks I have appointed more than 1300 people to serve on the Boards of Managements of the 173 Catholic Primary Schools in the diocese. The generosity of spirit shown by these volunteers is a wonderful tribute to the esteem in which Catholic Education is held in our diocese and to the willingness of people to give of their time, expertise and energy to ensure that our primary schools continue to be places where knowledge is sought and respected and faith is nurtured and challenged.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank those who have served on Boards of Management over the past four years. Their contribution to Catholic Education is much appreciated by me and by the students, parents, teachers, priests and members of faith communities in all our parishes. As you begin your task of guiding and managing our schools over the coming four years I pray that you will be blessed by a spirit of wisdom, courage and right judgement in all that you do.

Commissioning of New Boards
I propose that, where possible, Members of Boards of Managements be commissioned during a parish Mass in Catholic Schools Week 2016. This week begins on Sunday, January 31 and concludes on February 6. A text for this commissioning is available here. As part of this commissioning it is suggested that a candle and a copy of a Book of Prayers for Meetings in a Catholic School be presented to each Board. The Book of Prayers has been compiled in response to requests following the completion of the Catholic Schools Partnership: A Process for Understanding, Supporting and Taking Ownership of the Characteristic Spirit in a Catholic School in many of our schools. Copies of this will be sent to all parishes in the coming weeks. A wrapper for the candles can be downloaded here.
