St. Brigid is reputed to have been born in the Townsland of Umeras. Just outside Monasterevin, Co. Kildare.
This Year a new Bank Holiday to honour St. Brigid takes place on Monday 6th February.
To Commemorate Brigid, Monasterevin Parish have organised a Camino Walk in her honour. Starting at St. Brigid’s Shrine at Mountrice on the Monasterevin – Rathangan Road (R414), Eircode: W34 X529, @ 11.00 am on Monday 6th February (walk is approx. 6km). Car parking provided at Mountrice Cross.
The Walk will be led by Bishop Denis Nulty and will journey via Umeras then along the New Canal Blue Way, finishing in St. Peter & Paul’s Church Monasterevin with a service of light at 12.30 pm.
A bus will leave the Parish Church Monasterevin at 10.30 am to Mountrice and return to Mountrice at 2.00 pm. For those who wish to avail, payment on the bus.
All those who participate will be issued with a special St. Brigid Camino passport that will be stamped at St Peter & Pauls Church and will be given a certificate to say they have completed the Camino.
St Brigid’s Crosses and refreshments will be provided on the day.
